"Chavasse" on Australia's "Under A Paisley Sky" radio show (+ a bonus!)...

Well, many thanks to Mr Paisley in Australia for TWO plays on today's "Under
A Paisley Sky" show; "Chavasse" from the new "The Last
Confessions Of A Saboteur" and the venerable "1917 Revolution"!

Very much appreciated, Mr P!

Ah, the creative process...

Fyodor Dostoevsky's manuscript draft for The Brothers Karamazov reminds me of when I wrote "1917 Revolution"...

Help required- "1917 Revolution" on CBS label?

Now here’s a thing – help required! DJ Chris Bent has been in touch with a query.

On his Radio Seagull and Carillon Radio 1476 shows, Chris plays all single releases from fifty years ago, week by week.

Four weeks ago, on 18th July, he played “1917 Revolution” on its official release-anniversary day. However, he’s now discovered that the single was also listed as being a CBS RELEASE ON 15th AUGUST and he’s asking if I ever came across a version on the old orange CBS label. And my answer is, no, I never did.

Can anyone help?

These weird things do occur, and “1917 Rev” did come out on the “CBS-orange” Dandelion label in the Netherlands. But that was a year later…

Anyway, bless ’im, Chris will be playing both “1917 Revolution” and first, the B-side “Sleeping Town”, on next Friday’s show. The podcast is already up online – do give it a listen. “Sleeping Town” is a real rarity for airplay (it starts at 24.36).

Any thoughts on this anomaly appreciated!

"Sleeping Town" gets an outing...

Just flagged up in my Googlewatch, this recent post by Manos Fatisis - "Sleeping Town", the B-side of "1917 Revolution" from 1969.

Cheers Manos - flip sides don't often get much of a look in!

Blast from the past...

Hmm, interesting bit of history here that I don't think I've seen before. No idea where it came from...

"1917 Revolution" - 100 years to the day...

“Ten Days The Shook The World!” – it’s a cliché, but it’s true; and it all kicked off exactly 100 years ago today.

Enjoy Kirbykat’s video of “1917 Revolution”

Ex-jukebox "1917 Revolution"...

Away from silly prices, Google's just flagged up an ex-jukebox copy of the original "1917 Revolution" single going for just 99p (at least for starters!). In its original white CBS sleeve as well.

For those who like records with big holes in the middle...

A recording anniversary...

It’s 46 years ago to the day – April 14th 1969 – that I recorded my first LP!

It was an early start. I got up at dawn, grabbed the Harmony 12-string guitar that’s in front of me even as I’m tapping now, and set out on the 200 mile journey from Leeds to London in my old A35 van. Parked in the Marble Arch underground car park and made it to CBS Studios in New Bond Street for the 11am session.

We recorded throughout the day, pretty well non-stop. Clive Selwood was there all the time, as was Mike Ross, CBS’s superb house engineer. I don’t know how Mike kept going – he’d just finished a through-the-night session with The Who and cleaned up the studio before I arrived!

We finished up around 6pm, then I drove back to Leeds. It was a long day…

So, it’s 46 years ago today that “1917 Revolution” was recorded. Just been listening to it again for old times’ sake. It’s still got a good sound…

46 years! Doesn’t time fly when you’re enjoying yourself?

"1917 Revolution" (and John Peel's Dandelion label) launch date confirmed...

I never kept a note of the exact date “1917 Revolution” (and John Peel’s Dandelion label) were launched on the world back in 1969.

Thankfully, oldiesproject has recently been streaming the song and has published that very important info! And it was – Friday 18th July. Records were always released on a Friday back in the day.

Ain’t the internet wonderful…

"1917 Revolution" on Sonar Radio, Israel...

My attention's just been drawn to 1917 Revolution's inclusion in a recent Sonar radio broadcast in Israel.

Subtitled "Sonar 19/7 : A House Is Not a Tent", this was a pretty revolutionary show and in great quality!

You can still catch it here: scroll down to either stream live or download.

Two hours of revolutionary heaven!

Enjoy...

1917 Revolution - take 2...

“1917 Revolution” was recorded on 14th April 1969. It was earmarked as a single from the start, but over four minutes was considered a bit of a turn-off when it came to getting airplay.

What not many people know is a second, shortened, version was recorded four days later. It wasn’t particularly good – I sang it slow for some reason – but a rather scratchy acetate of “take 2” surfaced a few years ago; if you’ve got RealPlayer, you can check it out here.

This is a pretty lo-fi 32kbps version, but if you’d like to hear it in full quality, email me and I’ll see what can be done.

Picture sleeve 1917 Revolution on eBay...

There's a very rare Dutch pressing of "1917 Revolution” here on eBay at the moment.

This is on the Dutch Dandelion label, and comes in a black & white picture sleeve.

I've reproduced the image below - looks to be in good condition...
